Chocolate walnut banana bread is perhaps one of the favorites among banana bread variations, as the combination of banana and chocolate creates a delightful pairing. The crunchy walnuts also balance out the soft texture of the banana bread. Bananas are already a popular fruit on their own, known for their numerous health benefits. They are not only loved by babies but also serve as excellent ingredients for smoothies and pastries.
Chocolate Walnut Banana Bread Recipe
- 2 ripe bananas
- 63 g butter
- 125 g brown sugar or granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 125 g all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 40 g walnuts
- 40 g dark chocolate
- a pinch of salt
Making the chocolate walnut banana bread:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a food processor, combine room temperature butter and sugar.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture and mix well.
- Peel the bananas and mash them with a fork. Add the mashed bananas to the butter mixture and mix until smooth.
- Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt into the banana bread batter, and stir with a spatula until combined.
- Chop the walnuts and dark chocolate into coarse pieces and add them to the batter.
- Mix the chocolate and walnuts into the banana bread batter.
- Line a 20×11 cm (8×4 inch) loaf pan with parchment paper and spread the batter evenly.
- Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 40-50 minutes. Perform a toothpick test to check if it’s done.
- Remove the baked chocolate walnut banana bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan.
- Once it has cooled down to lukewarm, remove it from the pan and slice.
